Borneo or Kalimantan is a huge adventure travel destination, covering an area about 747,000 sq km, and one of the largest tropical rainforests in the world. The island is very rich in biodiversity compared to many other areas. There are about 15,000 species of flowering plants, 3,000 species of trees (267 species of dipterocarp), more than 221 species of terrestrial mammals and 420 species of resident birds found in this mighty land. It is also the center of evolution and radiation of many endemic species of plants and animals. The land is inhabited by the famous Dayak tribe with over 200 different sub ethnics living throughout the hinterland along the bank of rivers and hills. It is customary for them to live with a whole extended family or one clan. Each family has their own compartment and the chief of the clan will occupy the central chamber.
Tour Itenary :
Arrive at Muara Muntai and sightseeing villagers daily activities from the long wooden bridge which is made of iron wood, and then proceed to Mancong by motorized canoe crossing the Jempang Lake of which we will have the opportunity to view many migratory water bird species and fishermen floating houses as well as the romantic Ohong River where proboscis monkeys, monitor lizards and other wild animals are hanging around at riverside. In Mancong, we will explore an exotic longhouse and Benuaq Dayak daily life. Next, we will visit Tanjung Isuy for watching hundred colorful dress dancers that welcome you with an impressive attraction in front of their longhouse. Afterwards, return to houseboat for cruising downward the Mahakam River. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on houseboat. (B,L,D)
Early in the morning, we will leave to floating market for exploring the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at riverside, free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for your flight to Pangkalan Bun. Arrive at Pangkalan Bun airport and directly transfer to Kumai sub-district for boarding the houseboat to Tanjung Puting National Park. The houseboat is a traditional wooden river boat about 6m by 2m with a roof forms the upper deck where you can view the rainforest as it glides by. The boat crew including the boatman, cook and expert guide. In the peaceful afternoon, we will slowly explore the quite river by the houseboat while observing the primates along the riverside. Overnight and dining on houseboat, with facilities; thin mattress, pillow, fine meals, bottled "mineral" water, mosquito net, kitchen, and simple toilet available on boat besides the familiar helpful guides and boatmen.
