The Middle Mahakam Lakes covers an area about 400,000 ha, located in East Kalimantan on the Sundaland eco-region and part of the Mahakam River, which is one of the major river systems of Kalimantan. The lakes and the wetland areas are one of Kalimantans most important wetlands areas. It has been identified as a crucial breeding and migration site for a total of 90 bird species, including important breeding populations of various herons and the Lesser Adjutant. Fish diversity and the presence of endangered mammals such as Proboscis Monkeys, wild ox, False Gavial and Siamese Crocodile, as well as the critically endangered Irrawaddy dolphin indicate the importance of preservation of these areas. The preservation of these wetlands and lakes has not only a national but also international biodiversity importance in terms of migrating and breeding bird species in this area.

Tour Itenary :

Day 01  BALIKPAPAN – SAMARINDA – MELINTANG LAKE
Meet at airport and directly transfer to Kota Bangun for about 6 hours, and then cruise up Semayang and Melintang Lake for sightseeing unique life of villagers and beautiful panorama of the lakes. Afterwards, transfer to fisherman floating house for overnight. (L,D)
Day 02  MELINTANG LAKE – MANCONG – TANJUNG ISUY – MUARA MUNTAI
Proceed to Mancong by motorized canoe crossing the Jempang Lake of which we will have the opportunity to view many migratory water bird species and fishermen floating houses as well as the romantic Ohong River where proboscis monkeys, monitor lizards and other wild animals are hanging around at riverside. In Mancong, we will explore an exotic longhouse and Benuaq Dayak daily life. Next, we will visit Tanjung Isuy for watching hundred colorful dress dancers that welcome you with an impressive attraction in front of their longhouse. Afterwards, proceed to Muara Muntai for overnight on lodge. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 03  MUARA MUNTAI PAMPANG SAMARINDA
Proceed to Kota Bangun and directly transfer to Pampang village for exploring beautiful longhouse with totem pole as well as the daily life of Kenyah Dayak people, and if we are lucky, we can meet the long ear woman on this village. A stop will be made at Tenggarong for exploring the King Collection on the Museum of Mulawarman and Royal Cemetery of Kutai Kartanegara kingdom. Afterwards, driving to Samarinda for overnight on hotel. (B,L)
Day 04  SAMARINDA – DEPARTURE
Breakfast at hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for your next destination. (B)
